Choose your Tokyo walk by curiosity
Four starting points in Asakusa, Ueno, Ryogoku and Nihonbashi.

Instead of trying to cover every famous sight, choose something you want to notice: a motif, a work of art, a movement or an everyday object. These four areas are options, not a one-day route.

Asakusa and Ueno
In Asakusa, look beyond the landmark photograph to shop signs and souvenir designs. Sensoji’s origin story is a temple tradition; archaeological finds offer a different kind of evidence about its long past. Respect worshippers and local photography rules.
In Ueno, choose one museum and one subject rather than trying to see everything. A pattern, vessel or detail of craftsmanship can give you a fresh way to look at things outside the museum. Check the actual exhibition, not only the collection list.

Ryogoku and Nihonbashi
Ryogoku offers connections to sumo and the Sumida Hokusai Museum. Movement is one possible personal theme linking how you watch sport and how you look at pictures; it is not a claim of direct historical connection.
In Nihonbashi, the Currency Museum introduces money as an object used in everyday life. Start with a shape, a character or an old price and follow the question it raises.
